Tuition and fees for four-year public colleges grew by 72 percent above inflation over the past decade, averaging $8,244 last year, according to the College Board.
WOW! Since I have three kids going into college, this is very disconcerting. I was, of course aware that tuition's are rising very fast, but the timing brings the situation into sharp focus. College bound young people are having to consider graduating with major debt and reduced job prospects.
The decision is made for many poor and middle class kids by the cost-they simply can't afford it. If they can manage they settle for less than their first choice. I'm not certain if anyone has the answer, Democrats or Republicans, but the answer needs to be found if we want our country to continue to be great. Like lots of these issues the answer is compromise and a combination of approaches. In the meantime, those of us who aren't in the 1% continue to struggle with the situation.
